Meet DAILY:DIRECTION: The 5th-Gen Group Bringing "Afro Core" to K-Pop

A new name is making waves in 2026's rookie class, and it isn't following the usual playbook. DAILY:DIRECTION (데일리디렉션), known to fans as D:D, debuted on February 23, 2026 under the brand-new label ODDWAVE with their single album First:Delivery — and they arrived with a sound and story unlike anything else in this generation.

The six-member group is the brainchild of Chief Creative Officer Park So-hee, a veteran visual director whose past work shaped the aesthetics of groups like aespa, LE SSERAFIM, Stray Kids, and ZEROBASEONE.

For D:D, she built something entirely new: a concept called "Afro Core," which fuses the rhythmic groove of Afrobeats with K-pop's performance-driven energy, favoring street-style visuals and loose, expressive choreography over glossy, futuristic polish.

What truly sets D:D apart, though, is the road each member traveled to get there. Leader En-Kim survived two canceled debuts before joining ODDWAVE. Main dancer E-Van previously performed with the group MIRAE.

Vocalist Kim Joo-hyoung and performer Lee Won-woo both built fanbases through prior groups and survival shows, while rapper Lim Ji-hwan sharpened his stage presence on a competition series. Only maknae Jang Yoon-seok stepped into the spotlight without any prior public journey, earning his spot as ODDWAVE's "hidden card."

That mix of seasoned resilience and fresh energy shows up in the music. Their debut track "ROOMBADOOMBA" charted on the Circle Digital Chart, while their July 2026 follow-up single album Monkey Mode, led by "Down With It," pushed their Afro Core sound even further with heavier bass and sharper choreography. Combined, their first two releases have sold nearly 30,000 physical copies — an impressive start for an independent label.

With rookie award nominations on the horizon for late 2026, DAILY:DIRECTION is proving that a clear creative vision paired with hard-won experience can carve out real staying power in a crowded generation.
